Hello, and welcome to what I hope will be a page about books and especially books about history. I write historical fiction – or as the ‘Welcome’ page has it, faction – because I was bitten by the works of CS Forester, Nigel Tranter, Geoffrey Trease, Rosemary Sutcliffe and Henry Treece just to cite a few, more years ago than I care to think about. I suppose it’s the chicken-and-egg question: did my love of History come from them or was it an expression of my interest in what they wrote about? I’m quite happy to let that question remain unanswered, because it led me, first, to an academic interest in their field as it became my own as a teacher and, next, to an absorbing hobby as I follow in their footsteps. Anyway, enough about me because I consider my books to be far more interesting than I am.

Having said that, though, if there are indeed any gluttons for punishment out there, I’m most willing to speak to book clubs, service groups, ‘Friends-of-the-Library’ or any other community groups that want to talk books, so contact details are on the next page.

Also, please use that page or even just email to info@cliowrite.com if you’d like to order a print copy; have a book signed for yourself or as a gift; leave feedback; ask a question or just have a chat about books — whether mine or anyone else’s. I’d love to hear from you!
